Passage is comprised of 300 cells modeled after ancient Parthian cells dated between 200BCE and 200CE, found in areas around modern Baghdad. The cells consist of a copper tube, steel rod, ceramic jar, and vinegar or citric acid. Individually the cells give off 0.5V and a few mAs; when linked as seen in the images, the cells form a battery sufficient to run an iPod shuffle, first generation, for short spurts of time (the energy source is inconsistent). The iPod seen in the picture has been de-cased and its original battery has been removed and fitted to hook up to the Parthian battery. The iPod plays a recording of the process of making the ceramic pots, multiple tracks of the process were recorded, layered, and mixed to a generic pop beat.
